Staff of the Mary MacKillop East Timor Mission  are keen to assist Australians to come to a greater understanding of the history and concerns of Timor-Leste, and so are available to work with a wide array of groups and schools.

Australia is in a unique position to assist the Timorese people.  Our wealth, stable institutions and high levels of education allow us to offer friendship and support to our near neighbour.  The unique relationship between our two nations grew out of a shared World War 11 experience in which the Timorese proved valuable allies.  The Australia-Timor relationship has been affected by the two-sided coin of the Indonesian invasion and the Timor Sea Resources dispute.  Geographically close, future generations of Australians and Timorese will best learn to negotiate this troubled history if they have an understanding of the issues, the decisions taken and the effects of past actions.
