The Mary MacKillop East Timor Mission encourages and supports the community health endeavours and requirements of individuals and communities through a range of educational strategies.
To assist in improving health and nutrition among the people of East Timor, the Mary MacKillop Mission is working with others to develop a nutritional powder using the leaves of the Marungi tree, which has amazing vitamin properties, and other locally grown vegetables.
Using sugar, iodised salt, soya bean powder, peanuts and other products a formula known as GGG is produced. This powder is sprinkled over rice or other food to make a highly nutritious food supplement.
Workshops follow the “Train the Trainer” model so that team members and health workers become more familiar with the use and benefits of the Marungi powder, and more confident in following up the project locally and in assessing improvement in health of the participants.
